Bell, Telus reach distribution agreement for Oxygen True Crime, USA Network, new CTV specialty channels

Bell has withdrawn its April 2025 undue preference complaint against Telus after the two companies recently reached an agreement regarding the distribution of Bell Media’s discretionary services Oxygen True Crime, USA Network, CTV Nature, CTV Speed and CTV Wild.

Bell had previously alleged Telus was unduly disadvantaging Bell Media’s new channels — rebranded as a result of Rogers’s blockbuster deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in June 2024 — alleging Telus had given undue preference to Rogers’s newly launched channels in some of its TV packages.

The resolution of Bell’s channel distribution dispute with Telus was made public in a CRTC letter Tuesday by Scott Shortliffe, the commission’s vice president of broadcasting.

In a Feb. 24 letter, Bell Media had informed the CRTC it was withdrawing its complaint against Telus, saying that it and Telus “have reached a mutually satisfactory agreement regarding the distribution of certain of Bell Media’s discretionary services in Western Canada, resolving concerns from our Part 1 Application that was filed on 25 April 2025. This agreement relates to USA Network, Oxygen True Crime, CTV Nature, CTV Speed, and CTV Wild, and does not extend to any other services.”

Around the same time Bell was ending its disagreement with Telus over channel distribution, the two telcos also resolved their wholesale fibre internet dispute.

Bell and Telus did not respond to requests for comment in time for publishing.
