Bell Sympatico launches subscription fraud protection service

TORONTO – Bell Canada has launched a subscription fraud protection service for its Sympatico ISP—the first of its kind in the country, the company says.

The Fraud Protection service can be bought as part of Sympatico’s Anti-Spyware service for $5.95 a month, or as part of a $10 a month bundle of Anti-Spyware, Anti-Virus, Firewall, and Parental Controls features. It’s available for high-speed and dial-up customers, and can be installed on up to three computers on one account.
According to the National Cyber Security Alliance, 81% of home computers still lack core protection such as updated anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewalls. In May this year, there were more than 20,000 unique attacks of phishing for individuals’ passwords, account numbers, and other personal and financial information in Canada, Sympatico says.

“Protecting our customers’ privacy and creating a safer, more secure online experience is a top priority for Bell,” said Patrick McLean, Vice President, Consumer Internet Services, Bell Canada. “Bell is the first ISP in Canada to provide consumers innovative subscription-based fraud protection technology to fight against common security threats online.”
