MONTREAL – Today, Bell Canada announced a $240,000 contribution to Montréal’s Ecole de technologie supérieure (ETS) for a research project designed to enhance service quality and traffic engineering on an IP (Internet protocol) network.
The three-year project will be carried out in partnership with Bell Canada’s Solutions Architecture and Integration (SAI) lab in Montréal. This contribution is part of the Bell University Labs R&D program for furthering the development of communications technologies in Canada.
The research project is designed to measure, model, simulate and then validate network architectures, and develops solutions for better management on a real test platform. It is part of Bell’s IP strategy for migrating the company’s entire network to IP while improving the customer experience.
“The burden on network administrators is growing heavier and heavier. We have to help them by creating tools that enhance performance and simplicity so that companies can deliver the best services," said Maria Bennani, a researcher and professor in ETS’ electrical engineering department. "The research will in the long run enable development of training plans that are tailored to the needs of Bell’s SAI team, and others."
Bell University Laboratories’ program is a private-public partnership involving Bell and a number of Canadian universities. It brings together communications industry professionals and university researchers to work on shared research projects while facilitating and fostering innovation and the growth of Canadian intellectual capital.
