TORONTO – Phone giant Bell Canada on Friday praised the Ontario budget for its recognition of the significance of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector to the province’s economy.
“We hope this is only the start of a more innovative vision of where our economy needs to go to be globally competitive,” said Bell SVP of enterprise sales Renato Discenza. “Businesses thrive and provide more high-quality jobs and opportunities for citizens when they optimize their use of ICTs – by creating a more competitive business environment, the provincial government can help drive investment and wider ICT adoption.”
The Ontario budget included an additional $64 million in 2007-08 to promote Ontario’s comprehensive e-health strategy and $10 million to help expand broadband to rural southern Ontario.
Bell noted in a media release Friday that it was already involved in contributing to the transformation of health care through innovative networks and applications that are improving patient care, and that it has expertise in bringing broadband to remote areas.
