TORONTO — Bell Media’s The Harold Greenberg Fund, in partnership with the Northwest Territories Film Commission (NTFC), Nunavut Film Development Corporation (NFDC), and the Government of Yukon’s Media Development Unit, announced Thursday the new HGF/Territories Shorts Program.
This new funding initiative is designed to finance narrative short films from filmmaking teams across the three territories, showcasing their creative visions and furthering the careers of writers, producers and directors as they develop their skills, Bell Media said in a news release.
Three fund recipients, one from each territory, will each receive a total of $20,000 in financial contributions from The Harold Greenberg Fund, NTFC, NFDC, and Yukon’s Media Development Unit to support their production of short and impactful standalone films. This initiative marks the first time that all three territories have been brought together under one funding program supporting filmmaking, Bell Media said.
“The HGF/Territories Shorts Program represents an exciting new chapter in our mission to support the Canadian filmmaking community in all areas of the country,” said John Galway, president, English-language program, The Harold Greenberg Fund, in the news release. “We are proud to work with our partner agencies on this initiative and can’t wait to engage with filmmakers in all three territories to help bring their exciting projects to life.”
The HGF/Territories Shorts Program joins The Harold Greenberg Fund’s growing collection of initiatives supporting short filmmakers in Canada. Other programs include the Shorts-to-Features Program, the Manitoba Shorts Program, and the BC Shorts Program.
“This is an incredible opportunity for a Yukon content creator to produce a dramatic film and share their story,” said Ranj Pillai, Minister of Economic Development, Government of Yukon, in the news release. “We are pleased to partner with the prestigious Harold Greenberg Fund on this exciting program, which will raise the profile of northern filmmakers and strengthen Yukon’s growing media industry.”
Huw Eirug, CEO, Nunavut Film Development Corporation, added: “The Nunavut Film Development Corporation looks forward to partnering with the Harold Greenberg Fund on this exciting new initiative. The Short Film Program offers a great opportunity for Nunavummiut filmmakers to further develop their storytelling skills.”
The deadline for applications for the HGF/Territories Shorts Program is November 6, and more information can be found here.
