VANCOUVER – Bell Media-owned Team 1040 and the Vancouver Canucks have extended their partnership with a new long-term radio rights deal through the 2016-17 NHL season.
Team 1040 has been the exclusive radio broadcaster of the Vancouver Canucks and home of the Canucks Radio Network since 2006.
The deal is the latest in a series of sports acquisitions for Bell Media Radio. Earlier this year TSN Radio 990 in Montreal acquired radio broadcast rights for Montreal Canadiens games and TSN Radio 1290 in Winnipeg became the official broadcaster of the Winnipeg Jets. Bell Media's Team 1200 in Ottawa also holds radio broadcast rights for the Ottawa Senators.
"We are extremely proud of our Canucks coverage and are thrilled that the team is continuing to put their trust in Team 1040 with this early renewal," said Bell Media Radio president Chris Gordon, in Thursday’s announcement. "As we saw during last year's Cup run, sports fans in the lower mainland know to turn to Team 1040 for Canucks coverage. This extension ensures they'll have industry-leading coverage from Vancouver's best sports broadcasters for the next six years."
