MONTREAL — Bell Media announced Tuesday its French-language Canal D channel will broadcast Guillaume Sylvestre’s new documentary Irvin Blais: La Voix du Peuple (Irvin Blais: Voice of the People) on Thursday, November 12 at 10 p.m. ET.
Produced by Patrick Fauquembergue, founder of Magasin Général Média, in collaboration with Bell Media, the documentary paints a portrait of country singer Irvin Blais, considered one of the most important CD sellers in Quebec and the voice of Quebec’s silent majority.
As a singer snubbed by commercial radio stations, with no management or tour team, Blais has enjoyed highly enviable success for many years. Teaming up with his wife, he travels the roads of Quebec to meet his loyal public. The production follows him on tour to the four corners of the province and captures his encounters with fans with whom he spends a lot of time before and after shows. His interest in his audience is reflected in his songs in which he sings about the reality of the regions: difficult working conditions, alcoholism, globalization and loss of land, immigration and politics.
The documentary is scheduled to premiere at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue International Film Festival on November 4. Canal D is a partner of the festival, which takes place from October 31 to November 5.
