Bell Media announces new show L’Empereur to air on Noovo

MONTREAL – Bell Media today announced L’Empereur (The Emperor), a new series written by Michelle Allen, is coming to Noovo in winter 2023.

The series, which consists of nine, 60-minute episodes, “traces the rise of an abuser and the journey of his victims to reveal the truth,” an English translation of a French press release says.

Jean-Philippe Perras will play Christian, rising star of a creative agency and Noemi Lira will play the role of Manuela, Christian’s colleague.

“In 2005, after a well-watered office party, Christian took Manuela home and the end of the evening “slips”. Despite what looks like a raceway accident, they continue to work together. Christian becomes president and helps Manuela climb the ladder, to the point of making her partner. In 2015, a woman denounced Christian to the police: she said she was a victim of rape. Then another manifests itself, then several others,” a synopsis in the translated press release reads.

“Christian is at the top, he is a loving father and husband, his close guard benefits from his generosity, society idolizes him and a generalized omerta reigns. What spark will give Manuela the strength to plunge back into her trauma and speak for all those who did not dare to do so? Will Emperor Christian continue to dominate the world and reign terror for a long time?”

In addition to Perras and Lira, the series also features Macha Grenon, Madeleine Péloquin, David Boutin, Jean-François Nadeau, Geneviève Boivin-Roussy, Charlotte Aubin, Joanie Guérin, Naïla Louidort, Maxime Oliver Potvin and Sharon Ibgui.

L’Empereur is produced by Sophie Deschênes of Productions Sovimage and is directed by Adam Kosh.

“We feel like we are experiencing a small revolution in the codes of sexuality, seduction and power relations,” said Allen, in the press release. “By putting things in perspective, I wanted to anchor the progress of current generations in the victories of yesterday’s women and, while appreciating the progress made, to better measure the one that remains to be done.”

“We are very excited to bring the first collaboration between Michelle Allen and Bell Media to the screen,” said Suzanne Landry, vice-president, content development, programming and information at Bell Media, in the release.

“Michelle has accustomed us to punch series that approach the news with strength, sensitivity and originality. We are convinced that L’Empereur, on which we have been working together for months, will be no exception.”
