MONTREAL – Bell Media announced yesterday shooting began this week for Après le déluge (After the Flood), a new original drama coming to Crave in December.
Set in Montreal, the series features six 60-minute episodes that “tell the story of Maxime Salomon (Penande Estime), a policewoman who takes four young people with a troubled past under her wing,” an English translation of a French press release says.
“To avoid a criminal record, Maxime introduces them to MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) – a combat sport. A decision that is not unanimous in the police officer’s entourage and that could cost her dearly. Can fighting fire with fire break the vicious circle of violence in which these young people have been swimming for too long?”
Written, directed and produced by Mara Joly, Après le déluge is produced by Zone3 and ZAMA Productions (Joly and Miryam Charles) in collaboration with Bell Media.
The cast includes France Castel, Marilyse Bourke, Karl Walcott, Jean-Moïse Martin, Dominik Dagenais, Stéphane Demers, Penande Estime and Émile Schneider.
“There are dreams and crazy loves that come true. This project is one of them,” said Joly, in the translated press release.
“I have long hoped for a series of heavy fiction from here written, directed and produced by Afro-descendants where I could recognize the Quebec in which I evolve and my cultural mix. This series finally arrives, with the added joy of creating it and carrying it surrounded by immense talent.”
