MONTREAL — Bell Media announced today its French-language Noovo channel recently acquired the rights to produce a Quebec adaptation of the reality TV show Survivor from the format owner Banijay.
Already produced in more than 40 countries, the Survivor format features competitors trying to survive in an isolated natural setting while completing endurance challenges, skill tests, mental capacity tests and puzzles.
The Quebec version will be produced by Bell Media in collaboration with ToRoS Productions. An anticipated premiere date for the show was not announced.
The deal with Noovo was negotiated by Jane Rimer, senior vice-president of Banijay Rights in Canada.
“Survivor has enjoyed worldwide success for three decades, and it is with great pride that we are working with Bell Media to offer this tour de force for the first time to the French-speaking public in Canada,” Rimer said in an English translation of Bell Media’s press release.
“Noovo is continuing its commitment to offer high-quality, large-scale content where Quebecers can recognize themselves and participate in the event,” says Suzane Landry, vice-president of content development, programming and information at Bell Media, in the English translation.
“With the acquisition of Survivor, we are reconfirming this promise in addition to enhancing our already rich entertainment schedule.”
