OTTAWA – Bell Canada is teaming up with Ottawa-based March Networks to develop video surveillance services to Canadian businesses of all sizes.
The internet-based surveillance services will be aimed at businesses that need secure, reliable, and sophisticated systems, such as retailers, financial institutions, and transportation authorities.
"Internet-based digital video and surveillance technology now offers companies the opportunity to customize their surveillance solution to directly meet their unique and challenging security demands in real-time," said Karen Sheriff, President, Small and Medium Business, Bell Canada. "As the Canadian Virtual Chief Information Officer, Bell now offers business customers of all sizes a digital video surveillance solution that integrates IT and telecom in a simple, affordable, and highly reliable manner,” Sheriff said in a statement.
Under terms of the agreement, Bell and March Networks will co-develop custom applications for joint customers at the recently opened Bell Advanced Solutions Innovation Centre in Ottawa, a joint venture between Bell Canada and the Wesley Clover group of companies, the largest shareholder of March Networks.
"The power of digital video services over today’s sophisticated networks is a killer application for today’s progressive businesses,” said Terry Matthews, chairman of Wesley Clover and March Networks, a leading provider of IP-based video applications used for security surveillance and monitoring
Advanced video surveillance can help retailers improve loss prevention functions, enhance security for customers and employees, effectively manage store traffic, and link point-of-sale transactions with video for improved business efficiencies, among things. Features for financial institutions include battling theft and fraud at bank branches, automated teller machines, cash counting stations, and corporate offices and linking specific transaction data with video so theft and fraud cases can be dealt with quickly. Transportation authorities can combat terrorism and vandalism, protect employees and public transit riders, lower litigation risks, and enhance public transit services.
