Bell launches Remote PVR, a la carte programming in Quebec

MONTREAL – Bell TV has launched Remote PVR, a national service that enables Bell TV subscribers to schedule and manage their TV recordings from their Bell Mobility smart phones or any computer with an Internet connection.

Remote PVR allows subscribers to search, browse and schedule new programming from anywhere where an Internet connection is available, in either English or French.  Subscribers who connect broadband Internet service to their HD PVR can also track PVR disk space to ensure ample room for upcoming recordings, set recording priorities and review, edit and delete recordings, and use their smart phone or computer as a remote control.

“This revolutionary service will change the way our customers manage their viewing experience,” said Kevin Crull, president of Bell’s residential services, in the announcement. “Now our customers can search for, discover and schedule TV programming across all three screens – TV, Internet and mobile. We see this as a sharp, competitive advantage.”

Remote PVR is available at no charge to all Bell TV subscribers with an HD PVR 9242 or 9241 receiver, and customers can connect their HD PVR to broadband Internet service by using either an Ethernet cable or Homeplug adaptor.  Data and international roaming charges may apply for those using a smart phone to access the service.

Remote PVR uses technology provided by Sling Media, Inc.

In other company news, Bell TV will allow their customers in Quebec to choose their TV programming on an a la carte, or one by one basis.

These flexible options enable clients to add 15 channels for $15 monthly, 20 channels for $19 monthly or 30 channels for $22 monthly.  Customers can also add individual channels for $2 each or get the ‘Favourites’ theme pack featuring 20 popular channels for just $5.  Bell TV also introduced five pre-assembled packages called ‘Top Picks’.

Quebec’s largest cable company Videotron also offers a la carte programming.
