Bell expands pure fibre Internet in Pickering

PICKERING, Ont. — Bell Canada announced today the expansion of its pure fibre Internet service to more homes and businesses in urban and rural areas of Pickering, Ontario.

This expansion will bring all-fibre broadband access to approximately 21,000 additional locations in Pickering by 2025.

Over 29,000 homes and businesses in Pickering will have fibre, a Bell spokesperson told Cartt.ca via email.

The broadband expansion program is fully funded by Bell and is part of its capital expenditure acceleration program for investment in national next-generation network infrastructure, explains the press release.

With the expansion, customers will have access to 100% fibre connections with Internet download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps as well as access to Bell services such as Fibe TV, according to the release.

“At a time when fast and reliable Internet connections are more important than ever, we’re proud to bring our pure fibre connections and world-leading Internet and TV services to more households and businesses in Pickering as part of our long-standing objective to connect Canadians in communities throughout Ontario and across our footprint,” said Bruce Furlong, senior vice-president, network, Bell, in the release.

“While the City of Pickering is experiencing significant residential and economic growth, there has been a long-standing digital divide with respect to our hamlets and rural areas,” said Dave Ryan, mayor of Pickering.

“Now, more than ever, the need for fast, reliable, and affordable Internet access is an enormous priority for both our residents and businesses, and I thank Bell for making this very significant investment in our community.”
