MONTREAL – Saying they’ve served their purpose, Bell Canada has ceased offering discounts for customers who choose to take more than one service from the company.
Existing discounted Bell customers will still be able to keep their cheaper rates but no new cut-rate bundles are planned right now. Customers had been able to take advantage of savings in the range of 5% to 15% if they took additional Bell services such as Sympatico, Mobility and ExpressVu, to go with their local phone.
While there was no press release announcing the move, the news came out at last week’s CIBC World Markets investors conference in Quebec City.
Bell spokesperson Paolo Pasquolini told www.cartt.ca today that 57% of Bell Canada’s customers across its territories now take at least two products from the company and that 1.27 million households take three or more.
Going forward, he added, expect deals and discounts to be applied “based on geography” where the telco will price products differently in certain areas, depending on the level of competition.
As a part of that strategy, Bell has applied to the CRTC (as reported by www.cartt.ca) to be able to price local phone service differently in its various areas, depending on the level of competition. Current regs say that is Bell cuts its price in London, Ont, that price must also be made available in Sherbrooke, Que.
