Includes 40 positions at Bell Media

Bell has confirmed in a statement to Cartt on Thursday that it is cutting approximately 690 positions.

The axing of roughly 650 manager positions at Bell represents under two per cent of Bell’s total workforce, the company said in a statement, which it’s making as part of its previously-announced three-year strategic plan “focused on delivering sustainable growth across all key business units.

“To advance this plan, we regularly assess and make changes to our team structure,” the statement said. “As a result, we made the difficult but necessary decision to reduce the number of non-unionized management positions across the company to better align our team structure with our growth plan. We know this is difficult for those who are impacted and we are supporting each person affected.”

The company is also cutting 40 positions at Bell Media, “predominantly in corporate departments” and representing less than one per cent of that division’s workforce, it said. Those cuts are part of what it said is an “ongoing transformation to a digital media and content leader.”

“We thank all departing employees for their dedication and contributions,” Bell said in the statement.
