EDMONTON – Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, Capital Health’s Stollery Children’s Hospital and Bell Canada announced today that Bell donated $350,000 to support the purchase of neuro navigational surgical equipment, which will assist in decreasing the number of children who experience post-operative complications or require additional surgeries.
"Thanks to Bell’s generous donation we are able to ensure that more children receive advanced medical assistance," said Dianne Young, president and CEO, Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. "Using this breakthrough technology, we can reduce the need for children to go through the trauma of more than one surgery. This also means the hospital is able to treat more patients."
The new neuro navigational system is a guidance system for brain surgery that uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to direct surgeons to problem areas inside the brain with pinpoint accuracy. During an operation, this sophisticated system connects MRI images with actual patient anatomy, helping surgeons ‘see’ what exactly is ahead of, and around, their surgical devices.
"This donation reinforces our deep commitment to building strong and healthy communities across Canada," said Stephen Wetmore, group president, national markets for Bell. "Bell is proud to support the life changing health care that Stollery Children’s Hospital provides to Western Canada’s children and youth."
