Bell bringing pure fibre Internet to over 8,000 more locations in Amherstburg

AMHERSTBURG, Ont. – Bell announced today it is expanding its pure fibre Internet services to over 8,000 more homes and businesses in Amherstburg, Ontario.

“Fully funded by Bell, this broadband expansion program will provide fast and high-capacity 100% fibre connections with Internet download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps and access to leading Bell services such as Fibe TV,” a press release explains.

This announcement is part of Bell’s capital expenditure acceleration program, which “is in addition to the approximately $4 billion in capital expenditures Bell typically invests in broadband network infrastructure and expansion each year, and will significantly increase the connections in localities across Canada while creating additional employment as network construction activity speeds up,” the release says.

“We are very proud to now say that, in addition to other high-speed internet options, we also have fibre available to all residents, businesses, islanders and farms in our Municipality,” said Aldo DiCarlo, the mayor of Amherstburg, in the release.

“The Town’s partnership with Bell began with the agreement to connect all 8,000+ properties in Amherstburg. However, as our community has recently grown, connection capabilities now exceed the Town’s total properties. This is an astonishing accomplishment that I’ve been eager to announce. It was all made possible with Bell’s significant investment in our community, for which I am immensely grateful.”

Bell expects close to 9,000 homes and businesses in the community will have access to its pure fibre network once the expansion is complete, according to a Bell spokesperson.
