MONTREAL – Bell cranked up the top speed of its Gigabit Fibe Internet service Monday, saying that its access speeds of 1.5 Gbps are now the fastest access speed to the home available in Canada.
The Montreal-based communications giant says that its new unlimited Fibe 1.5 Gbps service is now available in Ontario with rollouts to Quebec, the Atlantic provinces and Manitoba set to follow.
Delivered over Bell's fibre to the premises (FTTP) network and using its Home Hub 3000 modem/router (used by existing Gigabit Fibe customers), the Gigabit Fibe 1.5 plan offers download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, uploads of up to 940 Mbps, and unlimited monthly usage. It is priced starting at $84.95 per month for six months before jumping to its “regular” $109.95 per month price, according to Bell's website. The service also requires a one-time $59.95 activation fee.
"Bell Fibe brought Gigabit Internet speeds to Canada in 2015, and we're proud to leverage the world's best network technology to take Fibe even further with a new top speed of 1.5 Gbps for our home and small-business customers," said Rizwan Jamal, president of Bell Residential and Small Business, in the news release.
