OTTAWA – On Wednesday, Bell Canada announced a five-year commitment to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
The commitment includes a $1.5 million corporate gift to be distributed over five years. And in partnership with the Ottawa Senators, a further $1 million in fundraising proceeds to be collected through the annual Bell/Senators Charity Golf Tournament and the Bell/Senators Ice and Dice gala.
The funds will be used to support the complete end-to-end implementation of a highly sophisticated computer-based Clinical Decision Support System to directly improve clinical decision-making related to diagnosis or therapeutic processes within the Infant and Toddler Medical Unit at CHEO. The system will improve patient safety and treatment by delivering information to physicians – anytime, anywhere including the patient’s current condition and complete medical history, allowing treatment to be based on the best sources of information available.
Children will receive medical treatment guided by real-time data that physicians will receive using mobile devices at the patient’s bedside.
"This commitment further extends a longstanding relationship between Bell, the Ottawa Senators and CHEO," said Gary Cameron, President Bell Security Solutions Inc., and Executive Sponsor for Ottawa." "A core pillar of Bell Canada’s community investment program is our focus on enabling children and youth to reach their full potential no matter what the challenges are. We are very pleased to support this leading-edge work at CHEO which will have the potential to be replicated throughout the hospital and within other healthcare facilities across the country."
Since 2000, Bell has contributed over $400,000 to the CHEO Foundation.
