Bell and CBC forge new Olympic deal

TORONTO – Bell Canada today announced a new agreement with CBC/Radio-Canada to deliver the broadcaster’s coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Summer Games to Bell mobile phone, digital satellite television and high-speed Internet customers across Canada.

Bell and CBC had a similar deal during the Torino Olympics of 2006.

As the official Canadian broadcaster of the Beijing Games, CBC/Radio-Canada will offer extensive and in-depth Olympic coverage, which will be made available to Bell customers across Canada in forms ranging from video streaming on mobile phones to full high definition television feeds of specific sports during the Games.

"This agreement represents an opportunity for Canadians to receive exclusive CBC/Radio-Canada Olympic Games coverage at home, at work or on the go," said Scott Moore, executive director, CBC Sports and Chef de Mission, Olympic Games, CBC/Radio-Canada, in a press release. "Considering their proven commitment to the Olympic Games, Bell is the perfect partner to deliver CBC/Radio-Canada’s exclusive coverage of the Beijing Games on a number of digital platforms."

"Bell knows that Canadians love the Olympic Games and we are eager to ensure our customers have the best access possible to Beijing this summer," said Loring Phinney, Bell vice-president for corporate and Olympic marketing.

This will be the last Olympics for a while on Bell phones and CBC as CTV and Rogers are teaming up to broadcast and multiplatform-deliver the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2012 Summer Games in London.
