BATHURST, NB – Bell Aliant will bring its FibreOP network to ten more communities in New Brunswick this year as it continues to roll out its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology.
The City of Bathurst, the City of Miramichi, the Greater Saint John area, including the towns of Rothesay, Quispamsis, and Grand Bay-Westfield, and the Greater Moncton area, including the City of Moncton, City of Dieppe and Town of Riverview, are all slated to receive access to the company’s advanced broadband network delivered through 100% fibre-optic technology connected directly to resident’s homes.
“Having access to the fastest and most innovative technology will undoubtedly help New Brunswick attract and retain new and existing talent in the near future – furthering the goal of economic prosperity province-wide,” said president and CEO Karen Sheriff, in the announcement. “We’re extremely proud to offer an unparalleled broadband experience – including Bell Aliant TV – for our customers as we expand into a number of communities this year.”
Bell Aliant is also expanding the City of Fredericton rollout to include neighbouring communities such as New Maryland, Hanwell, Peppercreek, McLeod Hill and Lincoln, and is set to complete that project by the end of March. The next phase of expansion is already in progress and includes the City of Saint John.
By end of 2010, Bell Aliant said that it will have invested $80 million to bring the technology to 110,000 (or 35%) of the homes and business in New Brunswick, and that it will extend the service to a total of 145,000 (45%) of the province by mid-2011.
