Bell Aliant makes TV viewing more social

HALIFAX – Bell Aliant launched a free Facebook app for its FibreOp television customers in Atlantic Canada on Wednesday.

To access the app, customers require an active Facebook account and a Bell Aliant Internet connection. Viewers may then access popular Facebook features on their TVs including rating the show they're currently watching; viewing news feeds and profile details such as names, pictures and status messages; and posting status messages and notes to their walls.  The app supports up to ten unique Facebook accounts per household.

"Facebook has become a part of Canadians' lives. We are excited to bring it directly to the largest screen in the home – giving our customers a truly interactive and social TV experience," said Andre LeBlanc, VP of residential product (shown demonstrating the app to an employee, below). "Our future-proof FibreOp network was built to allow us to innovate and develop new services that will meet the communication needs of our customers today and tomorrow. Social trends are shaping where and how consumers want to connect, and Bell Aliant is responding."
