SUDBURY, ON – Bell Aliant is bringing its fibre-to-the-home network FibreOP to the greater Sudbury area of Ontario.
The company said Monday that it will invest $30 million to bring the network to 55,000 homes and businesses in the region later this year. Greater Sudbury is part of Bell Aliant's operating territory, though the service will be marketed under the Bell brand as Bell FibreOP.
"Greater Sudbury is the next logical step for our expansion of FibreOP”, said Bell Aliant president and CEO Karen Sheriff, in the announcement. “It is our third largest market and the largest outside of Atlantic Canada and the extensive aerial infrastructure in Greater Sudbury makes it ideal for FTTH technology. We've learned a lot from a successful build in Atlantic Canada, and the time is right for us to proceed in Sudbury."
