BRUDENELL, PEI – Bell Aliant and the Government of PEI have reached the halfway milestone in their joint initiative to deliver high-speed Internet to virtually all areas of the province by the end of the year.
The $8.2 million project, announced in November, 2008, has seen more than 10,000 homes added to PEI’s broadband footprint, meaning 90% of residents now have access to Bell Aliant’s broadband network.
“We’re very pleased with the progress of this significant expansion of our broadband services, and proud to say we’re already half way there,” said Heather Tulk, SVP of customer solutions for Bell Aliant, in the announcement. “Our employees have shown an unwavering commitment to the project’s success and are dedicated to furthering technology and innovation on the Island.”
Provincial premier Robert Ghiz said the new service is a major benefit to individuals and businesses throughout rural Prince Edward Island, allowing them to "become more competitive through the use of new technologies”.
