BBC Earth to premiere Serengeti II docuseries Oct. 31

TORONTO — Blue Ant Media announced today its BBC Earth channel later this month will have the Canadian broadcast premiere of Serengeti II, the follow-up to the 2019 hit docuseries that explores the lives of wild animals in Tanzania.

Narrated by Academy Award-winning and Emmy-nominated actress Lupita Nyong’o (above), Serengeti II “immerses audiences in the complex relationships, thrilling battles and tender moments that punctuate the lives of nature’s most captivating characters,” reads a description in a press release.

The new series “takes audiences back to a spectacular setting in an unspoiled corner of Africa, revisiting some favourite faces from the first series instalment,” the release says.

“There’s humour, heartbreak and nail-biting tension as new characters move in and the familiar cast continue their stories, showcasing the moments that prove each day of survival a feat. Bakari the baboon struggles with family life; Kali the lioness makes a difficult decision; and a family of leopards arrive — the adorable and adventurous cubs test their mother’s patience as they get used to their new home.”

Serengeti II is produced and directed by Emmy-winning wildlife filmmaker John Downer and is made by XIX Entertainment and John Downer Productions. The series was commissioned for BBC TV and Discovery in the U.S. Blue Ant Media owns and operates BBC Earth in Canada.

Serengeti II will premiere Sunday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on BBC Earth. The channel is also available in Canada on Amazon Prime Video. New episodes will roll out weekly and will also be available in video on-demand format.
