TORONTO – Former Corus Entertainment exec Barbara Williams is joining the CBC as its executive vice-president effective May 1st.
In a memo to employees on Wednesday, CBC CEO Catherine Tait described Williams (pictured) as a “veteran media executive with deep knowledge of Canada's ever-changing media landscape”, noting her past roles as EVP and COO at Corus Entertainment, as well as senior positions at Shaw Media and CanWest Broadcasting.
This had been a widely rumoured landing spot since she left Corus at the end of October.
“A visionary leader, Barbara brings with her a wealth of experience with respect to developing future revenue streams and overall content strategies that have consistently resulted in audience growth”, continues Tait's note. “I'm excited to be working with Barbara. She's joining us at a very important time as we look to launch our new three-year strategy this Spring, and I know she'll be a welcome and important addition to our team.”
Radio-Canada EVP Michel Bissonnette has held the role on an interim basis following the departure of Heather Conway last December.
