OTTAWA – Former Fundy Cable exec and Canadian Cable Systems Alliance founder Barbara Stanley has been appointed to a three year term on the governing council for the National Research Council.
Industry Minister David Emerson made the announcement yesterday, also adding B.C. biotech lawyer James Hatton to the same board.
"These appointments strengthen the work of the National Research Council in many ways," said Minister Emerson, in a release. "James Hatton and Barbara Stanley have extensive experience working in the private and public sectors and will bring a wealth of knowledge to the research and development being performed at the NRC."
Stanley is a corporate lawyer with over 25 years of experience in representing the private interests of citizens and the commercial and corporate interests of the business sector. She was engaged in private practice for 16 years at Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales in Atlantic Canada before moving on to senior executive positions at Fundy Cable, which was owned by her husband Bill, and the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA).
She recently chaired the Marine and Ocean Industry Technology Roadmap Group for Industry Canada and the NRC, serves on several Canadian corporate boards, and is the current chair of the NRC’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) advisory board.
