TORONTO – The British Broadcasting Corp. has been named the recipient of the Banff World Television Festival’s 2007 Outstanding Achievement Award for its “high-quality programming and overall contribution to the television industry.”
The award will be presented during the TV festival on June 10 at the Fairmount Springs in Banff, Alberta. BBC Director General Mark Thompson will accept the award. He will also take part in a Question and Answer session at the close of nextMedia – The Future of Digital Content, the new media conference, also held in Banff that wraps June 10.
I am particularly pleased for the recognition of the BBC’s forward-looking role in innovating for new digital platforms and audiences across television, radio and online,” said Thompson.
Mark Greenspan, executive producer of nextMEDIA – The Future of Digital Content, said Thompson was the ideal candidate to close that event.
“The BBC continues to successfully push its boundaries, championing TV on the PC, radio and video podcasting, video streaming, and producing content for mobile and other wireless handheld devices,” said Greenspan.
Toronto-based Achilles Media Ltd. organizes both the Banff World Television Festival, running June 10-13, and nextMedia, set for June 8-10.
