AJAX Ont. – ATX has significantly expanded its broadcast industry capabilities with the purchase of Canadian transmitter manufacturer LARCAN.
A division of LeBlanc & Royale, LARCAN begins operating as an ATX division today. As both are private companies, terms of the deal were not disclosed. An ATX spokesperson however, confirmed that LARCAN will remain at its current Mississauga location and no cutbacks in terms of employees are planned.
"With the Broadcast Industry repositioning for digital and mobile technologies, strong international presence across all broadcast platforms will be key," says the press release announcing the purchase. "This will better position ATX in strategic markets for growth in new sectors of digital broadcast communications globally. LARCAN also has a strong international presence through partnerships that have been garnered during its long history in global markets with sales to more than 80 countries."
LARCAN will add to the broadcast side of ATX-owned divisions Novanet (satellite delivery) and MSC (broadcast equipment supply). Novanet purchased MSC in January of 2005.
“The broadcast industry transition to digital broadcast positions LARCAN’s digital transmitter technology for a very prosperous future with ATX,” said John Charles, chairman and president of LARCAN, in a release. “LARCAN’s significant commitment to technology continues to entrench us in our role moving forward with ATX as a key innovator internationally."
“LARCAN has a very strong management team with a proven record of success and we look forward to working together to innovate even better products and solutions for our customers globally," added stated Mark Beggs, president and CEO of ATX.
