ATN sees revenues continue to slide, reports larger loss

TORONTO — Canada’s largest South Asian broadcaster, Asian Television Network International (ATN), reported Monday for the full-year 2019, its operating revenue was down and the company attributed this to “increased Internet piracy and consumers shifting towards illegal digital IPTV set-top boxes”, according to the management discussion and analysis document filed with Sedar, which accompanied the news release.

ATN’s operating revenue for fiscal 2019 was almost $12 million, down from $14.8 million for fiscal 2018. Total operating expenses in 2019 were $14.7 million, a decrease from the $16.9 million in operating expenses the company had in 2018. The company’s net loss for the 2019 fiscal year was $2.3 million, worse than the $1.5-million net loss it reported for fiscal 2018.

ATN is a Canadian media company serving the country’s diverse cultural communities with more than 50 specialty TV channels.
