MONTREAL – On October 30th, Astral Media will become the largest private broadcaster of French-language HD content when it launches Super Écran, Canal Vie, Canal D, Vrak.TV, Ztélé, HiSToRiA, and Séries+ in high definition.
The channels will present a wide range of films, youth programming, major series, magazine shows, and documentaries in French on their respective HD channels, according to the company. Its not known how much of the content on the channels will be true HD and how much will be upconverted.
This week a large ad campaign in support of the launch was launched in Quebec, where the HD channels will be available, using the company’s outdoor and radio station divisions. On October 30, the entire Astral Media Radio network (RockDétente, Énergie and Boom fm) will broadcast an advertising blitz to publicize the HD programming additions.
Additional consumer information will feature capsules to explain HD technology and how to get it. For example, last week, Ztélé presented special episodes of the programs La revanche des nerdZ and Ça s’branche où? dedicated to HD, said the company.
