MONTREAL – Astral Media and Groupe TVA have launched a new web portal in Quebec designed specifically for people from ethnocultural and Aboriginal communities in the province, as well as persons with disabilities.
Mediasdiversite.ca is an extension of the Médiadiversité project (previously Télédiversité), created in 2005 by the two companies. It offers Quebecers interested in the media industry a range of content, that includes a virtual job fair, a series of interviews and video capsules, and articles and stories on the trades and occupations in the industry reported by people passionate about their field. The site also provides tips for creators who want to improve their chances of having their artistic projects supported by broadcasters.
"After successfully organizing five annual editions of the Médiasdiversité event, the time had come to renew and update the project's format," said Véronique Mercier, director of communications at Groupe TVA, in the announcement. "The creation of a new portal reflects Groupe TVA's commitment to encourage the presence of cultural communities within its workforce, both on screen and behind the camera."
"This initiative embodies Astral's desire to fulfil its social commitment to cultural communities and, through this website, opens an ongoing dialogue between Québec's private media industry and people from visible minorities and the Aboriginal communities, as well as persons with disabilities, who want to pursue a career in media," added Hugues Mousseau, director of corporate communications and synergies, at Astral.
