Astral files first corporate social responsibility report

MONTREAL – Astral Media released its first annual corporate social responsibility report this week, highlighting its major cultural, community and environmental commitments in 2010-2011.

Astral is one of Canada’s largest private sector financial contributors to film, television and music, investing over $170 million each year to develop and acquire television and film productions as well as to support Canadian musicians and songwriters.

It also uses its media properties to increase public awareness of various causes and extend the reach of their financing campaigns. In 2010, this support represented a value of over $25 million, in addition to the more than $12 million donated by Astral listeners during three radiothons benefiting some twenty children’s hospitals across the country, the Québec Breakfast Club and earthquake victims in Haiti.

"At Astral, we are dedicated to supporting Canadian culture and contributing to the communities where our 2,800 employees work," said Sylvia Morin, VP of brand management and corporate communications, in the announcement.
