Asia-Pacific ahead in IPTV deployment

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Asia-Pacific region is out in front of the rest of the world in terms of IPTV deployment, according to a research report.

Within five years, there will be an expected 39 million IPTV subscribers in the Asia-Pacific market, bringing firms revenues totalling US$8.1 billion, according to high-tech market research firm In-Stat.

"With IPTV, incumbent telcos have the opportunity to fundamentally change their broadband customers’ video service experience from the traditional video clip streaming and downloading model," says Bryan Wang, In-Stat analyst. "IPTV is expected to be the real killer application in the telcos’ broadband services portfolio that will increase ARPU and preserve user stickiness."

What makes Asia-Pacific the fastest-growing IPTV market in the world? Higher broadband penetration and a better regulatory system, In-Stat says in a report studying conditions in China, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

But with growth also comes the need to stay competitive, the analysts point out, advising IPTV providers to find a unique way to packaging and bundling in order to attract customers and maintain a competitive edge. Most IPTV service providers have done this by strategically integrating services in their triple-play bundled offerings.
