OTTAWA – It looks as though Hubert Lacroix will remain CEO of CBC for a while longer as the federal government has re-opened the job posting.
Lacroix’s official term came to an end on December 31st, but the government announced on December 19th (when five new members of the CBC board of directors were officially appointed), that Lacroix would stay on past the end of the year until a replacement was announced.
It was thought the federal government had winnowed down its choices and was very close to a decision, but instead decided to re-list it. According to a report in iPolitics, the independent committee in charge of the process chose to do so in order to properly approach and vet Canadians who are living abroad, as it was thought that cohort was not properly examined.
Something else to consider is that the five new board members might have wanted some say on the CEO they will be supporting for the next five years.
The application window has been re-opened to January 29th. This is the second time the application period has been extended.
