HAMILTON – Clearcable Networks is launching its Canadian Content Distribution Network (CDN) and authentication services today.
The new CDN offers television programmers and service providers “an alternative means to transmit and receive traditional linear digital content and live over-the-top streaming content across the country by employing a distributed network of edge caches that move live content closer to the subscriber network,” says the company’s press release.
The service is aimed at new technology service providers and specialty or multicultural programmers who need a means to distribute content. The underlying technology, coupled with the company’s authentication services, “will enable locally-branded OTT portals that include live, local community content, select programmer and live streams, and Go product streaming services for authenticated and authorized subscribers,” continues the release. It’ll also provide standalone identity provider services for single-sign-on to various TV everywhere products.
“These new service offerings will bring new content to local systems while minimizing the cost of distribution and providing bandwidth cost savings” said Rob McCann, president of Clearcable, in the release.
