TORONTO – 75-year-old Broadcaster Magazine published its final issue in December, Cartt.ca has learned.
The title had several owners over the decades (including Conrad Black’s Hollinger Inc.) but the most recent owner, Annex Business Media, purchased Broadcaster and its sister title Sportscaster (which had been Mediacaster and Cablecaster before that) in 2015 and had the two for sale for some months but could find no buyers. Cablecaster was originally launched in 1988.
We’ve got a soft spot in our hearts for the two titles – which still appear online, but have not been updated since December – because Cartt.ca founder Greg O’Brien was editor of Cablecaster from 1997-2004 and Broadcaster as well from 2002-2004 and even though we were competitors, we’re sad to see them go.
