MONTREAL – Pierre Arcand has resigned as president of Corus Québec Radio in order to make the jump into provincial politics.
Arcand announced Tuesday he will be the Quebec Liberal candidate for the Montreal riding of Mont-Royal in the upcoming election, expected to be called next week. The seat is considered rock-solid Liberal.
Arcand became president of Corus Québec in 2002 after holding senior positions with the Télémédia radio network. He began his radio career as a journalist in Montreal, becoming news director of top-rated French-language CKAC in 1978.
L’Autorité des marches financiers, Quebec’s financial services regulator, reported in its most recent bulletin that Arcand sold about 11,000 Corus shares in the week between January 26 and February 5th; he still holds about 28,000 shares.
Pierre’s brother Paul is a well-known TV and radio journalist in Montreal and is currently a talk show host with the Corus-owned 98.5 FM.
Corus owns 14 stations across Quebec.
