Indigenous broadcaster APTN last week announced the launch of its winter slate of programming that includes a new documentary series, Treaty Road, and a French version of the acclaimed six-part drama series Little Bird.
The docuseries Treaty Road follows Saxon de Cocq and Erin Goodpipe as they explore the sites, history and people connected to the signing of the numbered treaties in Canada. “Together, they confront the difficult truths of Canada’s colonization, comparing the promises made to those kept,” says a press release. Treaty Road will premiere on APTN TV on March 5 and on the APTN lumi streaming service March 6.
The French version of Little Bird, which “follows Bezhig Little Bird on her journey to reconnect with her birth family after being apprehended as a child and adopted into a Jewish family in Montreal”, will premiere on APTN TV on Jan. 15. The English version of the series was aired in October 2023, and both language versions are available to stream on APTN lumi.
APTN’s winter schedule also includes new seasons of documentary series Red Earth Uncovered, hosted by Tom Jackson and Hayley Dakota, and comedy series Acting Good, created by and starring Paul Rabliauskas. Season 4 of Red Earth Uncovered premieres Jan. 10 on APTN TV and Jan. 11 on APTN lumi. Season 2 of Acting Good will premiere on APTN TV on March 19 and on APTN lumi on March 20.
In addition, as part of APTN’s partnership with Sportsnet to broadcast a select number of NHL games with commentary in Plains Cree, Hockey Night in Canada in Cree’s 2024 season will premiere on APTN TV on Jan. 27.
APTN also announced two new APTN lumi Originals coming to its streaming service. Premiering Jan. 8, Cultural Craftmanship: Moccasins is a short-form series hosted by Chantel Morgan who will walk viewers through how to make their own pair of moccasins. Premiering Feb. 14, the limited series Jason “follows a young Indigenous man as he moves from the rez to the city and navigates university life, where each choice tests his values, pushes his boundaries and challenges the expectations of his loved ones,” the press release says.
