Indigenous broadcaster APTN announced Tuesday it is looking to fill four positions on its board of directors — one for each regional quadrant (northwest, northeast, southeast and southwest).
Applications are now open until Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. CT.
“APTN is on the lookout for bold thinkers, passionate leaders and visionary changemakers to join our board of directors,” an APTN press release reads. “This is your chance to be part of the next exciting chapter of the world’s first national Indigenous media company.”
Serving on APTN’s board is “more than governance, it’s a chance to help revitalize Indigenous cultures and amplify authentic voices that resonate at home and abroad,” says an emailed APTN announcement.
APTN says it is seeking individuals with diverse professional backgrounds who have experience in finance, governance, law, community leadership or the media industry, among other areas of expertise.
As part of APTN’s mission and mandate to promote and provide opportunities for First Nations, Inuit or Métis peoples, and in accordance with relevant legislation, preference will be given to indigenous candidates, APTN says.
APTN board members serve for a three-year term. The board of directors meet at least four times per year, typically in Winnipeg. Additional meetings may be held by video or teleconference and directors are expected to participate in one or two board committees, which meet virtually, by phone or at board meetings. The board communicates mostly in English and each meeting involves the substantial reading of reports, APTN says.
APTN is a community-driven, charitable media company that operates three distinct viewing platforms: APTN (English and French channel), APTN Languages (indigenous language channel) and APTN lumi (streaming service). Working in collaboration with indigenous creators and independent producers, APTN says its platforms feature more than 80-per-cent Canadian content.
