WINNIPEG — Canada’s national Indigenous broadcaster APTN is now accepting applications from people interested in serving on its board of directors.
APTN’s governance board is responsible for oversight of the broadcaster and sets policy and direction while guiding the organization to fulfill its mission, mandate and vision to “share our peoples’ journey, celebrate our cultures, inspire our children and honour the wisdom of our elders,” says APTN on its corporate website here.
The team on APTN’s policy governance board is drawn from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds and Indigenous traditions, says APTN. The organization is looking for board member representation from all regions of Canada.
Some of the professional areas of expertise APTN is seeking in applicants include finance, legal, broadcasting, television or film production, news/journalism, and corporate and regulatory experience. APTN is also looking for applicants who can contribute the following capacities to the board: elder or knowledge keeper; youth perspective; First Nations, Inuit or Métis perspective; Indigenous-language speaker; and traditional knowledge and values.
The APTN board of directors meets at least four times a year, typically in Winnipeg. Additional meetings may be by teleconference, and directors are expected to participate in one or two board committees which meet by phone or at board meetings. The board communicates mostly in English and each meeting involves the substantial reading of reports.
Directors are elected for up to a three-year term and may sit for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
