WINNIPEG – APTN will debut as new national news program called Nouvelles Nationales d’APTN on Aug. 26th.
The weekly program will air on APTN e in Eastern Canada, at 6:30 p.m.
APTN has been offering French programs for a number of years, but Nouvelles Nationales d’APTN will be the network’s very first French national news program intended for an Indigenous audience. “A French news program was in the works for a long time. At last, we are proud to launch this brand-new program on APTN,” says Jean La Rose, CEO of APTN, in the press release.
Anchorwoman and co-producer Sophie Claude Miller, who hails from the Waswanipi Cree First Nation, will be at the helm of this new program. Prior to joining APTN, Miller worked in communications and as a social worker. After completing an internship at the CBC, she joined APTN in January 2019.
The new 30-minute program will focus on Quebec’s 11 First Nations and provide profiles on community members, investigations, extended news stories and interviews to put the weekly news into perspective, says the APTN release. Danielle Rochette, a recently retired Huron-Wendat journalist, will be the program’s first guest. She was the Quebec correspondent for APTN National News for 14 years.
