APC sells SVOD rights for new thriller to MHz Networks in U.S. and Canada

PARIS — France-based boutique co-producer and distributor About Premium Content (APC) announced today it has secured deals with a number of new broadcast partners for the four-part thriller series Algiers Confidential.

MHz Networks picked up the SVOD rights for the series in the U.S. and Canada for its MHz Choice streaming platform. Other broadcasters who have secured rights to air the series include Australia’s SBS, Portugal’s RTP, Spain’s Filmin, Germany’s MagentaTV and Israel’s HOT channel group.

Algiers Confidential, which had its world premiere at Series Mania in 2021 and will first air on Arte on Feb. 17, is produced by French production company Watch Next Media and the German company Eikon for Arte and ZDF.

The series stars Ken Duken (above, left) and Hania Amar (right) and is written by Abdel Raouf Dafri (Braquo S2, A Prophet). Directed by Frédéric Jardin (Sleepless, Spiral S5-S7), the series has been shot in French, German and Arabic.

Algiers Confidential’s riveting intrigue takes us into contemporary Algeria, a country where foreign interests, the wounds of civil war, corruption and the idealism of a new generation come crashing against each other as the country writes its future. In a climate of struggle for democratisation against a breathless and corrupt regime, a police inspector attached to the German embassy in Algiers has a forbidden love affair with an Algerian investigating judge. As they try to hide this relationship, the kidnapping of an arms dealer puts them in a difficult position. This conflict of interest will strain both their loyalty and their love for each other,” reads a synopsis in a press release.

Algiers Confidential deftly uses the backdrop of a country which is not often explored on the global stage and brings all the high stakes of its political situation to create a drama that is compelling and unique,” said Laurent Boissel and Emmanuelle Guilbart, joint-CEOs and co-founders at APC, in a joint statement in the press release. “Following its debut at Series Mania, we’re delighted to have secured a strong stable of partners who will bring this series to an international audience.”
