TORONTO – You won’t get them in their full broadcast glory, but AOL Canada announced today it will feature all of the U.S. Super Bowl television commercials for free to online Canadians.
Since, as mentioned in an earlier story today, most Canadians won’t have access to U.S. broadcasts, Canadians will be able surf to AOL.CA right after the game to see the ads that buyers have paid US$2.5 million for. And in those ads’ defense, they’re usually pretty entertaining.
In addition to viewing the ads, visitors to AOL.CA will be able to vote on their favourite ad spot and engage in conversations with other Super Bowl fans in Canada. Visitors can go directly to http://video.aol.ca/superbowl for this and more interactive content.
“Some of the most memorable Super Bowl moments have occurred not on the field, but during the commercial breaks,” says the AOL press release. “Canadian viewers however, traditionally miss out on this entertaining aspect of the Super Bowl experience, as the highly anticipated U.S. advertisements are not always available through standard cable and satellite feeds.”
The commercials will be available online for several weeks following the Super Bowl.
