Anik F3 launches this evening


BAIKONUR, KAZAKHSTAN – This evening (or, tomorrow morning, on the other side of the world), Telesat’s Anik F3 will blast off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The new bird will provide valuable broadcasting and telecommunications capacity, business communications and Internet-based services throughout North America.

Anik F3 is Telesat’s second European-built satellite. The new spacecraft, manufactured by EADS Astrium, will allow Telesat to fully develop the 118.7 degrees WL orbital position and enable the expansion of Telesat’s business throughout the Americas. Along with 24 C-band and 32 Ku-band communications channels, Anik F3 will carry a small Ka-band payload to supplement services now being carried on its sister satellite, Anik F2.

Telesat will distribute video feed of the satellite’s construction and its launch on the evening of Monday April 9th at the times and coordinates listed below. B-roll that includes launch and construction footage is also available upon request.

When: Eastern time: Monday April 9th, 6:54 p.m.; Baikonur time: Tuesday April 10th, 4:54 a.m.
