TORONTO — With the Paralympic Games happening in Tokyo later this summer, following the pandemic-delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) announced this week it will debut its new original series, Beyond the Field, on July 12 on AMI-tv.
Hosted by Paralympians Greg Westlake (above left, AMI-tv’s Level Playing Field) and Travis Murao (above right), the six-episode Beyond the Field series examines important issues impacting the world of sport, specifically parasport.
In the series, Westlake (a long-time member and captain of Canada’s multi-medal-winning para ice hockey team) and Murao (Canadian wheelchair rugby player) “raise awareness and push the conversation forward through discussions with elite para-athletes, experts and coaches,” reads AMI’s press release.
“I’m proud to bring Beyond the Field to audiences in advance of the Paralympic Games,” says Michelle Dudas, senior producer at AMI-tv in the release. “The discussions that Greg and Travis have with their guests shed a light on important issues and challenges that need to be addressed.”
Beyond the Field premieres on AMI-tv on Monday, July 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The first episode, “Racial Diversity in Sport”, features a conversation with Paralympians Kieran Block and Richard Peter.
The topics discussed in the remaining episodes include LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport, mental health preparation, coaching with a disability, recruitment and grassroots support, and life after sport.
