AMI-audio to air new Christmas radio play this holiday season

TORONTO — Continuing a holiday tradition, Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) announced today it will deliver a special gift to AMI-audio listeners with a brand-new audio play, Christmas Thieves (A Small Town Radio Play), starring several AMI-audio hosts.

The radio play will air on AMI-audio Friday, Dec. 24 at 2 p.m. ET and Sunday, Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. ET.

Christmas Thieves (A Small Town Radio Play) is written by Greg Oliver Bodine and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts Inc.

“It’s Christmas Eve in America’s heartland, and radio host Bjorn Gundlarrsen is preparing for the telethon performance that will keep his tiny, polka-themed radio station afloat. Unfortunately, the prize troupe of British actors he’s hired has all fallen ill due to a dastardly combination of indigestible foreign meats. With time running out, will Bjorn be able to replace them in time and save the show?” reads a synopsis in an AMI press release.

The audio play stars Kelly and Company’s Kelly MacDonald as W-CHZ radio station manager Bjorn and Ramya Amuthan as town mayor and PTA president Rosie. NOW with Dave Brown’s Dave Brown plays Old Man Saltzpeter, “W-CHZ’s crusty, big-shot program sponsor and the station’s most vocal critic”, while The Globe and Mail Today’s reader Mike Ross plays Mac, the station’s shy, taciturn engineer. Low Vision Moments host Jennie Bovard plays Madge, “the station’s uber-custodian”.

“We’re excited to continue the tradition of bringing radio plays to our audience,” says John Melville, vice-president of content development and programming for AMI-audio/AMI-tv, in the press release. “The holidays are a time for family, and there is no better way to celebrate that than gathering for truly inclusive storytelling.”

Last year, AMI-audio debuted It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, which will be presented again this year on Friday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. ET and Saturday, Dec. 25 at 5 p.m. ET on AMI-audio.

AMI-audio programming can be streamed online at AMI.ca. AMI-audio is also available as a linear channel from TV providers across the country. A channel guide is available here.
