SEATTLE – Amazon Studios has inked an overall deal with Gillian Flynn, the author and screenwriter of Golden Globe nominated Gone Girl, with the first project being a straight-to-series order for her version of the British conspiracy thriller Utopia.
The nine-episode drama series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories, including Canada. Premiere dates were not announced.
A co-production between Endemol Shine North America and Kudos, an Endemol Shine Group UK production studio, as well as Amazon Studios, Utopia revolves around a group of young adults who meet online. They are mercilessly hunted by a shadowy deep state organization after they come in to possession of a near mythical cult underground graphic novel and discover the conspiracy theories in the comic’s pages may actually be real, forcing them in to the dangerous, unique and ironic position of saving the world.
In other Amazon Prime Video news, the service said that it will stock 10 Canadian productions for Prime members in Canada starting May 14, including Durham County, Bomb Girls, and Being Human.
