Amazon launches Prime Video Store in Canada

TORONTO — Amazon launched Tuesday the new Prime Video Store in Canada, allowing customers to rent or buy movies, including new releases, Hollywood blockbusters and popular titles.

Movies in the Prime Video Store will be available from top U.S. and local movie studios, including Disney, Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount, Lionsgate and Toronto’s Elevation. Some of the new titles available now to rent or buy include Jumanji: The Next Level, Sonic the Hedgehog and Joker, according to the news release.

All Amazon customers in Canada can rent or buy movies in the Prime Video Store through primevideo.com and the Prime Video app on smart TVs, Android mobile devices, game consoles, streaming media players including Amazon Fire TV, and select BDUs.

The new launch adds to the selection of movies and TV shows available to stream on Prime Video with a Prime membership, including Amazon Originals such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Boys, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Fleabag, The Expanse and The Aeronauts.

“We’ve seen how much our customers enjoy the large selection of new release movies available to rent or buy on the Prime Video Store in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Japan, so we’re delighted to roll this service out in France, Italy, Spain, Canada and Australia today,” said Mike Hopkins, senior vice-president, Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Studios, in the news release.
