TORONTO — For the first time, Amazon customers in Canada will be able to use their Alexa devices to livestream the Juno Awards show, which will broadcast live from Saskatoon on Sunday, March 15 starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, and will be hosted by Alessia Cara.
Through an integration with CBC, the music award show’s host broadcaster, Alexa users will be able to use their devices to view or listen to a livestream of the Juno Awards. There will be both a video livestream available on Alexa devices with a screen, and an audio livestream available on Echo speakers.
To get started with streaming on any Alexa-enabled device, users will need to ensure the CBC skill is enabled and then say, “Alexa, play the Junos.”
“Amazon is excited to work with CBC to make this engaging and entertaining content available to customers,” said Celine Lee, Alexa country manager in Canada, in the news release. “We hope that customers enjoy a delightful and seamless experience of streaming this year’s Juno Awards ceremony.”
“CBC is committed to enabling Canadians to access and participate in the Junos on their terms. In addition to broadcast on CBC Television, CBC Gem, CBC Radio and CBC Listen, Alexa has emerged as an exciting new touch point for our audience and we are thrilled to work alongside Amazon to bring Canadian music’s premier event to this innovative platform,” said Richard Kanee, executive director of digital strategy and products at CBC, in the news release.
Amazon Music is also a presenting sponsor of the “Single of the Year” Juno Award, which includes nominated songs from Alessia Cara, bülow, Lennon Stella, Scott Helman and Shawn Mendes with Camila Cabello. To celebrate, Amazon Music has created a special playlist featuring artists who are nominated in the “Single of the Year” category. Amazon Music customers can just say, “Alexa, play the 2020 Juno nominees” via the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android, or on Alexa-enabled devices.
Once the Juno Awards have concluded, customers who missed part of the event can ask, “Alexa, who won the Junos?”
